Milburngate Gateway Gardens provides a much-needed civic open green space for Durham City, enhancing the dramatic setting of the UNESCO World Heritage site. The Gardens, home to the new future proof County Council Headquarters, bridges the gap in the provisions of the city for its community, providing a local resource through employment and leisure.
The nature sensitive philosophies of designing with the river and nature mark the change in Durham’s attitude to pluvial flooding, creating a synergy between water and the urban environment.
